2020 may be forever remembered as the year the world shut down.  The pace at which the COVID-19 pandemic spread throughout the world was unprecedented.  In a matter of weeks, the virus brought global travel almost to a complete halt, shut down restaurants and hotels, closed schools, forced cancellations of major conferences, sporting events, concerts, and triggered “stay at home” orders for non-essential workers in most countries.

The good news is that two months of social distancing, self-quarantines, and wearing of masks has slowed the spread of the virus and the slow re-opening of businesses and economies has begun in many countries.  There are positive signals from research into possible treatments and vaccines that will limit the future impact of the virus.
